A Brief History of the Southwest Florida Gay and Lesbian Chorus

The Southwest Florida Gay and Lesbian Chorus was formed in 1993, at the initiative of Doug Gathers and a small group of founders. They collaborated with Stephen Brittain, who agreed to become the first director, despite the problems that would undeniably come with his "coming out" publicly.

Since our founding in 1993, we have been a LGBTQ- friendly and all inclusive 501c3 non-profit organization. We performed our first Pride concert on June 19, 1993 at the Arcade Theater (now the Florida Repertory Theater) in downtown Fort Myers, FL. We welcome all voice parts with no audition requirement and you do not need to know how to read music. Learn the art of singing different types of music with a full and small group ensemble, as well as, solo and instrumental opportunities. This group participates in local, regional and national performances.
