Our Story So Far...
Founded in 1993 by Doug Gathers and a small, courageous group of local singers, SWFL Voices began at a time when publicly coming out came with undeniable risks. Driven by a vision of community visibility, they planted the seeds for what would become a resilient beacon of unity in Southwest Florida. For over three decades, we have proudly operated as an all-inclusive, LGBTQ+-friendly 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Like the community we represent, our chorus has weathered changing social, economic, and political climates - growing, adapting, and finding our strength time and again. To ensure our identity fully reflects our open-door mission, we changed our name to SWFL Voices in 2019, reaffirming that absolutely everyone is welcome in our family.
While the 2020 global pandemic temporarily thinned our ranks, it could not quiet our song. With every passing season, we have returned stronger, re-energized, and more dedicated than ever to fostering inclusivity, building community spirit, and celebrating human diversity through the universal language of music.
Though our rehearsal and performance spaces have moved across Southwest Florida over the years, our heart and our purpose have never wavered. Today, we are proudly rooted at St. John the Apostle MCC (3049 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33901. We are thrilled to welcome new voices to our non-auditioned ensemble and cannot wait to share the magic of live music with you at our next performance!
“Uniting Our Community In Song”
